Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate; the corals are usually encrusting. Polyps (corallites) small (less than 1.5 mm), immersed, densely packed and with solid style-like columella. Coenosteum in between polyps covered by fine granulations and one style adjacent to each polyp (Veron and Pichon, 1976). Colour light to dark brown or green.
Ecology: Common on upper reef slopes.
Range: Indo-West Pacific.
Additional remarks: Corals may become solid to branched in unusual habitats (such as in murky, narrow bays).
