Type species: Gardineroseris ponderosa (Gardiner, 1905) [= G. planulata (Dana, 1846)].
Total number of species estimated: 1.
Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate; encrusting to massive. Polyps (corallites) with distinct walls, until 7 mm in diameter, deeply immersed, with (nearly) solid columella (Veron and Pichon, 1979). Colour cream, light to dark brown.
Ecology: Most common on upper reef slopes.
Range: Tropical Indo-Pacific, not eastward from Galapagos
Additional remarks: The sharp edges between the calices and the smooth septa are distinctive characters.
