Type species: Fungia (Cycloseris) cyclolites (Lamarck, 1815)

Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate, monostomatous (with one mouth), free-living, round or oval. Also occurring as wedge-shaped fragments, which usually regenerate into new corals. Maximum diameter 15 cm. Septal teeth small, each with a vertical row of small granulations. Corallum wall solid. Costal spines shaped like sharp granulations (Hoeksema, 1989). Colour predominantly brown, occasionally with additional purple or green pigmentation.

Ecology: Most common on the lower slopes and sandy reef bases. Usually the deepest of all fungiids and other stony corals.

Range: Tropical Indo-Pacific.

Additional remarks: The wedge-shaped fragments have been classified as separate Diaseris species by some authors.
