Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate, monostomatous (with one mouth), free-living, round. Maximum diameter 38 cm. Septal teeth with vertical rows or zigzag patterns of ridges. Corallum wall solid or perforate. Costae strongly variable in size, the largest with long costal spines and the smallest almost without spines (Hoeksema, 1989). Colour predominantly brown, grey, or olive-green , occasionally with additional purple or violet pigmentation.
Ecology: Common on reef slopes.
Range: Indo- West Pacific.
Additional remarks: The three species show distinctive colour patterns.
