Type species: Fungia (Wellsofungia) granulosa Klunzinger, 1879

Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate, monostomatous (with one mouth), free-living, round. Maximum diameter 19 cm. Septal teeth fine and granular, evenly covered by small granulations. Septa may show tentacular lobes. Corallum wall perforate. Costae show blunt, granular costal spines (Hoeksema, 1989). Colour predominantly brown.

Ecology: Most common on lower reef slopes.

Range: Indo- West Pacific.

Additional remarks: Many specimens are inhabited by the pit crab Fungicola sp., which lives in between the septa.
