Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate; encrusting to foliaceous, thin, fully covered by spines. Polyps (corallites) flat, poorly developed, without clear paliform lobes and a clear columella (Veron and Pichon, 1979). Colour cream or light brown.
Ecology: Most common on reef slopes.
Range: Indo-West Pacific.
Additional remarks:Can most easily be be confused with Echinophyllia, which has much thicker plates and larger, further developed, secundary calices.
