Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate; encrusting to foliaceous or branched. Polyps (corallites) at the bottom of deep valleys in between upstanding ridges, which in some species are interrupted with upward sharp points, on the upstanding projections themselves, or on pointed branches where they divide (Veron and Pichon, 1979). Colour cream, green, brown or red.
Ecology: Most common on reef slopes or lower parts of reef flats.
Range: Indo-West Pacific.
