Type species: Coeloseris mayeri Vaughan, 1918.

Total number of species estimated: 1

Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate; massive. Polyps (corallites) with distinct walls, 3-7 mm in diameter, deeply immersed, no columella (Veron and Pichon, 1979). Colour cream, light to dark brown.

Ecology: On reef flats and upper reef slopes.

Range: East Indian Ocean and West-Pacific, from Andaman Sea to Samoa.

Additional remarks: Resembles some Pavona species but has more distinct calices.
