Type species: Acrhelia sebae Milne Edwards and Haime, 1849 (= A. horrescens (Dana, 1846)

Characteristics: Corals zooxanthellate; branching. Polyps (corallites) with pointed septa, shaped like crowns (Veron and Pichon, 1979). Colour cream, light to dark brown or greenish.
Ecology: Most common on sheltered reef slopes.
Range: West Pacific, eastern Indonesia to Vanuatu.
Additional remarks: The distinction with Galaxea is arbitrary since specimens of Galaxea cf. prolifera Nemenzo and Ferraris, 1982 also tend to be branching.
