Description: Colonies encrusting, often forming large sheets. Polyps retractile, connected by band-like or spreading stolons. Besides basal stolons polyps may also be connected by some elevated stolons. Pinnules of tentacles are long and conspicuous. Sclerites thorny or tuberculate rods, spindles, or needles. Colour of colonies greenish, brownish, whitish. Zooxanthellae present.

Habitat: low tide to great depths.

Range: Widespread in Indo-Pacific and Atlantic.
