Type species: Duncanopsammia axifuga (Milne Edwards and Haime, 1848)

Characteristics: Colonial, forming broad, pedunculate, subdendroid colonies by extratentacular budding from edge-zone peripherally on lower margins of corallites. Corallites free above, united basally by coenenchyme. Costae replaced as in Heteropsammia by rows of crispate granulations extending over surface of coenenchyme. Septa arranged according to Pourtalès plan. Columella spongy, deep in calices.
Ecology: On deeper parts of reef.
