Gray, 1870
Genera: Four genera are recognised in the shallow waters of the Indo-West Pacific:
Genus Acabaria,
Genus Clathraria,
Genus Melithaea,
Genus Mopsella Melithaeidae (1).
Description: Colonies mostly fan-shaped, sometimes bushy. In the thicker branches swollen nodes are visible. Mostly dichotomously branched, branches originating from the nodes.
Note: It is impossible to recognise the different genera without examination of the sclerites. Possibly the nowadays recognised four genera only represent one very variable genus.
